The Great Outdoors

Sutton Archaeological Dig Project (ADP)

Several years ago a group of interested people from Sutton successfully applied for a £25k grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out an excavation of a bronze age barrow on the edge of the Parish.  The dig was run by volunteers and took around 5 years.  It uncovered a cremation urn containing the remains of a young male who had been buried with a flint axe.  This and other finds went on display in Ely Museum in 2009/10.  Since then the project has remained dormant.
If you would like to find out more about this dig, or the history of Sutton, please contact Liz Rhodes - or tel; 01353 777696.
